Public Lectures In October 2003, the International Center for Russian & East European Jewish Studies started a series of public lectures, organized in collaboration with the Center for Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library. The intended audience is scholars, researchers, publicists, university students and everyone interested in history of the Russian and East European Jewry. The organizers of the series try to include lectures by the leading experts in the Russian and world history and culture. The lectures are to illuminate the most thrilling moments of Russian history that the textbooks traditionally had little to say about. The audience is encouraged not only to listen to the lectures, but also to participate in discussions on the issues that concern the contemporary Russian society and cause heated arguments among the historians. Academic lectures take place every third Thursday of the month in the Conference Hall of the Center of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library and traditionally attract interested audiences. By now we have a circle of regular attendees consisting of the leading Moscow specialists in the field of Jewish Studies. Young researchers of the East European Jewry also frequent attend the lectures. Public Lecture 2003 |
