First professional development workshop for the alumni of the International Forum of Young Scholars of Russian and East European Jewry

Budapest, 4-5 August 2008

The Leonid Nevzlin Research Center for Russian and East European Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, in cooperation with the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture at Leipzig University and the Jewish Studies Program at Central European University (Budapest) will host the first professional development workshop for alumni of the Forum in Budapest, Hungary on August 4-5, 2008. The local hosts in Budapest will be Prof. Andras Kovacs and Dr. Michael Miller from Central European University.

The purpose of the workshop is to promote the research and career progress of the Forum alumni. It will focus on effective writing, publication and teaching in our field. The workshop will be "bare-bones" in that it will not include local tours, etc. Rather, we will maximize our limited time in Budapest for professional work, led by the group of senior scholars that includes Professors Dan Diner, Zvi Gitelman, Israel Bartal, and Andras Kovacs.

The first session of the International Forum was held at the Dubnow Institute in Leipzig in July 2004. The second session was hosted by the Vilnius Center in July 2005. The Institute of Jewish Studies at University College London hosted the third session of the Forum from 1-6 July 2007 .
